From Tweet to Mic:
Story of a Football Fantasy

See how a tweet turned my passion for football into an unforgettable commentary journey
with CANAL+, France's top TV channel, through their show 'Au Micro'.

STARTED FROM A TWEET…

In 2023, my friends and I saw a tweet in our timeline: CANAL+ was looking for a new football commentator. A nationwide casting call, open to everyone, to join the CANAL+ Sports team and commentate on Champions League matches for the 2024/2025 season.

I loved my job and had no intention of leaving, but this was also the opportunity of a lifetime, a chance to breathe, live, and share the passion for football during an exceptional interlude, alongside equally passionate competitors.

Like 10,000 other passionate fans, My friends and I decided to
give it a shot…

I WAS SELECTED AS ONE OF THE 30 FINALISTS FOR A COMPETITION FILMED OVER 9 EPISODES, BROADCAST ON CANAL+.

“Au Micro: Une Nouvelle Voix pour le foot.”

🎙️ Commentate on Samir Nasri’s screamer against Porto in Champion’s League, in 2010…

My first 'match' as part of the final 30 took place at the legendary Velodrome Stadium in Marseille.

The challenge? Handle the pressure, demonstrate in-depth football knowledge, and deliver a memorable, engaging commentary on Champions League football.

…and secure my spot among the top 4 candidates in Marseille, earning me a place in the final 12 in Paris.

Behind the Mic: My Takeaways

A few intense episodes and challenges later,
I may not have won, but reaching the final 10 commentators taught me some humbling lessons…

1. Meeting inspiring and charismatic candidates from all walks of life. Yes, football does unite people.

2. Voicing historic Champions League matches with Christophe Jallet was an honour, showcasing the art of real-time analysis and chemistry between pundits and commentators.

3. Engaging with Hervé Mathoux, the “professor,” deepened my understanding of the game and highlighted the value of continuous learning, no matter how much you think you know.

4. Realising that being a sports commentator is not only complex but deeply rewarding. Those who excel have a unique talent for blending live narrative and analysis, creating memorable experiences for the audience.

5. Tasting the art of “prepared improvisation”. This delicate balance of preparation and spontaneity is essential in capturing the raw emotions of the moment and connecting deeply with the audience.
